You aren’t too late. I mean, where else are you going to put your money? The dollar isn’t going to get more valuable, so savings/bonds/cds are a bust until interest rates really rise. Real estate you already have, so you should be investing in the market. I’m still investing, and that’s not gonna stop. Start with market index ETFs, and dollar cost average, there will be enough dips that you can get in to a good position overall. Then as you get more comfortable, if you want to try some short term ETF trades. IF you want to get a little crazy put some in a crypto ETF.

Under contract...that quick. Cardboard home but still, potential with a lot.

PBS had a recent documentary on Elon. Have to give him credit for taking risks and being different.

And wow I guess he was there during the snow storm,

"I was actually in Austin during that snowstorm, no electric, no water, no heating, couldn’t even get to a food store. If you had the Solar Plus Powerwall, you would’ve had lights, electricity and internet too," he said about Tesla’s backup energy product.

Looks like Elon Musk lives in a house on Lake Austin:
https://austonia.com/elon-musk-austin-home

He is apparently looking to buy (or build) an estate in the area. He is looking at a house formerly owned by Kendra Scott, but I don't know where that is.

My bet is that he will purchase acreage and build somewhere off River Hills Road (near Joe Rogan and JP DeJoria), or convince Michael Dell to sell him acreage from his 1400 acre ranch between Westlake and Bee Cave.

an LLC tied to Musk bought this house on Lake Austin (Eanes ISD side of the lake) earlier this year:

Had to bring this thread back to life. Tesla is keeping its engineering headquartered in California. While Austin will technically remain as the headquarters, not having the top engineering jobs does take away some of the luster.

I kinda figured he wouldn't move everything from California. Most of this was for tax purposes, not talent.

The fact that Tesla’s headquarters is in the GigaFactory while the majority of the functions are in the Palo Alto site is all you need to see to know this was almost entirely tax purpose driven.

I’ll revive this quote.

E. Austin metro does need to fix the school / amenity issue to encourage more middle / upper middle class growth.

The commute to Tesla from Leander actually isn’t too terrible. In my rides down that way it’s only about 30 - 40 minutes using the toll roads since they opened 183 East Side. 183’s tolled sections don’t really get congested. The section between 45 and MoPac does… here is what Google Maps quotes me in time to get to Tesla and it’s currently Friday morning rush hour…

Many folks moving from California Bay Area are used to commutes extending over an hour.

I also know people who moved out to Travisso who were initially worried about commutes into Downtown but were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t as bad as they thought it would be.

Maybe housing prices and rent in Austin will go back down a bit.
