I used to teach in Eanes ISD. The only thing that surprises me about this is that people are surprised by it.

I tried to read the article, but it is so slanted and full of childish phrases such as “big Karen energy” that I lost interest. It sounds like a millennial with a half-semester of creative writing skills penned it.

Westlake is full of wealthy white people. Some of them might be aholes. This can be said for just about every neighborhood in every city in every state of our country. Westlake didn’t write the book on bad manners.

*shrug*

While I agree generally that it is fairly hyperbolic, I will say that I also used to teach there (albeit as a sub) and while it is not every parent is a rich a-hole, the proportion of them that are is much higher than any other area that I taught or subbed in.

To be fair, there are some very similar parent 'personalities' in my SW Austin neighborhood as there are in WL. The difference, though, is they don't get any traction in their demands due to lack of numerical support, more or less. Elitism is not geographically limited.

The writer is a woke pundit for Mayor Adler. There is an agenda at play here.

His wife volunteered for that Mars mission that wasn't coming back to Earth. They have 2 kids. Awkward.

He’s currently the “Chief of Communications and Community Engagement” for AISD.

Oh dear.

Who is using his platform to slam a rival (and superior) ISD in the area which is extremely unprofessional. Imagine an officer from Eanes ISD writing an op-ed about AISD and criticizing it's biggest failure (and there is a large basket to pick from)

1. The Shrinking AISD population
2. AISD's failing campuses at all levels K-12
3. AISD's teen pregancy rates
4. AISD's teacher's who won't show up for work but demand pay raises.
5. Violence on AISD's campuses.
6. AISD's ban on PTA funded teachers (while the Eanes PTA funded an extra 47 positions this year)
7. AISD's CRT focus (while students fail core subjects)
8. AISD using taxpayer's money to recruit out-of-district transfers from crappier districts(instead of hiring more teachers, or trying to retain the middle-upper class students that are leaving)

The writer is hardly the first one who has voiced this sentiment. I'm not sure how much time you've spent actually in a Westlake school (my guess would be none), but the two former teachers who replied here (me included) have said it accurate.

The irony is that until recently, Eanes ISD and specifically Westlake High School haven't even really tried to hide or deny it. Signs at football games with racist slurs clearly written on them, the racist chants proudly and loudly repeated. Yes, this crap happens everywhere, but it happens and is condoned in some areas more than others. Westlake is one of those areas.

Yes. My husband attended LBJ and played football. He remembers the chanting when they played Westlake in 1990, and it continued years after that. It's disgusting.

Something told me you'd point that out. You're hilariously predictable.

It was then, and it STILL is now. It hasn't changed. IT IS DISGUSTING.
