Want to Relocate to Bullhead City AZ (RV park, hair salon)

Lived in the area for a couple years, it's what you make out of it. Wife hated it, no trees and she found the dessert terrain depressing. I didn't mind it, the sunlight off the mountains certain times of the day is beautiful. Yeah, the wind only blows twice a year, half the year from the north, half the year from the south. We didn't find crime to be that big a deal, never felt unsafe at any time, no break-ins or robberies. I do suspect they get some assault crimes, probably drugs, but if you're not into that I wouldn't think it's a big deal. Drugs can be a problem there, heard one company wanted to locate a call center there, couldn't find 200 people to pass a drug screen. But, have seen that other places.

Job wise, other than the casino's, and maybe the new solar power plant, that may or may not go in, not much going on. Some light manufacturing and some retail, best to have something lined up before you go there, jobs can be slim pickings.

Yeah, hot as heck in the summer, but you get used to it. Traffic not all that bad. And if you're bored you can always head to Vegas for major shopping, nightlife, etc.

Wondering what about the area is attracting the OP.

I too was looking to relocate to either LHC (Lake Havasu City), or Bullhead, AZ or Laughlin, NV.
If I was to go by opinions I read on here, on LHC, I'd be turned off in a heart beat,
I think I may have been, as I'm easily influenced.

But being as I've been to Bullhead, AZ and across the river to Laughlin (yes, to play), I offer you my opinions, though I see your original post is months old, and I wonder if you've actually been by this time.

I like the Colorado Belle casino, and in general, the people there. Especially the poker room.

My Visits
I visited in 2000 and 2007. In 2000, I was looking for an IT job. By the time of my second visit, the magic
of this newly discovered place just seemed to have faded a bit, not a whole lot but a tad.

Oh, before I forget, that Harrah's there, is the one where the shoot-out took place between the Hell's Angels and the other group, I think it was the Mongols (in 2001, I think). Anyway . . .

One thing that I thot was weird was the sign, in one of the casinos on the AZ side, that said something to the effect of: The management at this casino reserves the right to treat its customers anyway it sees fit.
(again, it was something to that effect), and the casino wasn't a big deal. Not even any table games.

I'd prefer NV
If I could find a place, where money was not really an object, I'd prefer the Laughlin, NV side.
Something about no state income taxes to claim - not sure, but that's what I thot it was.
I like the drive from Laughlin, to Hoover Dam/Vegas, from the NV side. Then, there's another great drive to
take if you want to ditch the ride all the way up to the hoover dam, and take something completely different. I forget which road that was. Plus, on another ride, you can go into Needles, CA.

The ride up to Kingman, from the Bullhead City, AZ side, is another great drive, but I think I'd prefer the NV drive.

Sorry, can't help you with that info. In Bullhead City, I remember a Walmart and Walgreens.
Nothing like a Walmart or Walgreens on the Lauglin side.
More jobs likely in Kingman, if the Casino thing doesn't pan out.

Safe Neighborhoods?
In 2000, I walked from the furtherst end of the casino strip to Harrah's where I was staying at the time,
(a year or two later, the shoot-out occurred). And I didn't feel the least bit threatened safety-wise during my walk. I walked along the street, not the boardwalk. Beyond that, I can't tell you.
Also, the Beach Boys happened to be playing. Caught some of that show too.

Retirees
I can't imagine there are too many more people other than retiree aged people, except for casino personnel.
I mean the only thing in Laughlin, for its economy is indeed the casinos, and couple of gas stations, and a small sort of business park, doctor's office, etc.

Traffic
The bad traffic spot I remember was where the bridge crossing into AZ. The right turn you make, that's what I'd want to avoid, at times. Sucks that it's a single (2 lane) lane road. That needs to be fixed.

One weird thing is with the tennis balls cut in half to make the road lines. I guess this is for dark nights, or
drunks, which I don't think there's a problem with, probably a headlight safety thing.

I really liked the Laughlin side, and on my 2007 trip, I stopped in to see a Real Estate agent, one day. I didn't buy anything, but I really liked the lay out of the city, made me wish I was retirement age.

Thank you for your post. I did't know about the elevation and weather. I am moving sight unseen to AZ never lived there and know now one so this is really scarey for me. I am gathering information on the internet. To make my decision.

I'm considering moving to Bullhead from Montana...I'm only 27 years old so definitely not a retiree. I wanted to hear some honest opinions of what people thought about it. I'm originally from Yuma so I get the heat I'm fine with that. I'm a little concerned about work. I do hair and it's a little hard to get an idea of what the salons are like without being there. Are there a lot of salons? Are their mostly older people that live there or is it a pretty good mix of both young and old. I'm sure like Yuma the snowbirds are insane but in general how is it? And Is the shopping and town itself as bad as some people make it out to be? Is it a growing town? I'd love some feed back. Thank you!!

Moving from Montana (aka part of heaven) to Bullhead (aka the opposite of heaven)? Uh, no, don't do it.

Sorry, I'm generally bullish on Bullhead, but this is where people who can't breathe in wetter climates come to die.

Haircuts for men run about $7.50, for women from $15.00. Not going to get rich.

If you're young and tired of Montana, move to San Diego or Seattle, any place with a future.

You will know just by driving through it...don't try to do it from Austin. Go there, rent for a while, drive around, read the paper, talk to the Police Department...it will become apparent where you don't want to be.

The good neighborhoods are east of the parkway, for the most part. The bad ones (where I live) are west of Hwy 95. Except homes on the river, most of which are fortresses from the street side to keep the riff raff out.

LOL - Actually most crime in BHC is domestic related, or drug related and they pretty much keep it in house. It's been years since I heard of anyone being mugged. The last one I recall was in Kingman and the bad guys got shot by the victm and that was that.

Laughlin and BHC are as safe as anyplace and probably safer than most.
