Every time that I see a reference to "loosing weight", I get a mental image of globs of adipose tissue flying around, and--trust me--that is not a pretty sight.

Nah, if it's just one guy, he's an alumnus. Latin is funny that way, & we're just lucky that we don't get into cases on this one. If you're referring to a bunch of male graduates of the school, then collectively they're all alumni. (Yah, there are feminine forms too - the more permissive authorities will let you refer to a group of male & female grads as alumni - the more restrictive want both forms.)
