Where did this even come from!!! I live in rural Illinois, and I have given up trying to correct people. I hear "had went" and "gone to" every friggin day. Don't even get me started on sale/sell (though I know it's been touched on here before).
OK, I guess there's nothing wrong with it, but it still sounds bad to me.
It drives me crazy, too, but that's accepted usage in Great Britain. I also find it more difficult to say the word "maths" than "math." It just doesn't roll off the tongue that easily.
I could have killed that woman with my bear hands.
No doubt!
