I see this mistake all the time. The rule to make a plural is so simple, so I just can't figure out why so many missed class that day.

I think it's the same mentality that chooses to make the word anyway plural, when there is never a need.

Yes, I would say "Wooden hangers for men's suits". The hangers are wooden, not the men. I think.
