A South Carolina newspaper wrote this: "At one point, rescuers considered repelling down the building to reach the window washers." They'd have better luck if they tried rappelling, probably.
Hey, hey, hey - don't blame that on a South Carolina paper. It's a national story and the incident took place in New York. Blame the news feed that released that story.

It's a national story and the incident took place in New York City, but I didn't see any other news outlets using the word, "repelling." I'm not necessarily "blaming" the South Carolina paper. I'm just saying I saw it there.
I'd like a day on which I could correct every error I see without anyone calling me names like "Grammar Nazi," or responding with, "Whatever. You know what I ment (sic.)" Or just some tranquilizers. Those would be fine, too.
"Our kids is the ones that's got to suffer." - a facebook poster
"I loved the chocolate moose."- a facebook poster talking about the chocolate mousse at a restaurant called, "Ponderosa."
"Pondersosa was on johnson."
"auto zone was Pondersosa."
Some...sage...advice for a young woman who is having problems with a neighbor:
"Is it possible that there is an odd 66 year old that gets cranky (turret syndrome cranky) because he has dietaries and smashes the doors and cabinets, then there is an impressionable young girl, who is scared.
A gun in this situation is the best solution, I am sure.
Get a boyfriend, is a much better advice!"
The question that I posed in response was, "What if he has a machine gun mounted in his turret?"
I wonder if I will get a reaction to that post...
The guy has turret syndrome and dietaries? I can understand why he'd be cranky.
I found several (at least five) instances of the exact same article with the word "repelling."
The original writer should take some remedial spelling classes, then. I only saw it once, but I only read one article about it, too.
My apologies to the SC newspaper whose reputation I besmirched.
"...and belong to a Missouri Synod Lutheran church where my children go to school and I am looking for a simular environment in OK."
I have a friend who uses the word similar and pronounces it as per the above spelling. A few years ago she married an educator with his PHD and I wondered if he would tell her the word she means. So far, I don't know.
