"bookworm" - a bookworm was the studious kid who always did their homework, got good grades, read a lot and might be socially withdrawn. I think these kids today are called "nerds".

'Dogs' for feet, as in "my dogs are tired!"

'Hoofing it'.

'Dog gone it!' (a variation would be 'dad gum it', I guess..haha). I've heard both in the past.

"Catty cornered" or "kitty cornered" - meaning diagonally.

'Elbow grease'.

That's what my mother told me to use to clean dirty pots and pans! Man, those enamel pots were hard to clean!

A bookworm is, was and always has been someone who likes books. Period.

The only person I've ever heard use the word cattywampus grew up in New Jersey. Parents were from Jersey, too. Maybe it was the grandparents.
