Kids also spend a lot more time watching TV and end up sounding more like TV stars then their parents. I do agree its a shame that America has lost so many accents. The kind of posh American upper class accent is an example, like the way Kelsey Grammer speaks. I've never met any young person speak that way but I see it mostly in old movies and I imagine it was quite common then.

I agree, but they don't want to be thought of "sophisticated" either lest they're thought of as "gay". It's the homogeneous vanilla middle ground everyone aspires to. Tocqueville was a visionary.
