After looking for a job for over 12 months, I have finally given up. Yes, I am a "quitter," but I don't care. I have come to the conclusion there is no sense in wasting my time applying for jobs. I will never get hired, period. Also, there is no sense in working some min. wage job with an ***hole boss that doesn't care and treats everyone like crap.
Luckily, I have a "lifeline". I got accepted to a Mandarin Chinese language program at a university in China and my Post 9/11 GI Bill will be paying for the tuition. I will also receive a monthly housing allowance.
Maybe in a few years, I will head back to the US and "try again" but right now, I need a change and I think spending some time in China will help me refocus my life.

I took Computer Network Specialist in the diploma form from September 2006 until December 2007, and when I couldn't find employment in IT in early 2008, went back to that same school in fall 2008, and took Computer Information Systems - Networking in the AAS degree form from December 2008 until February 2010. While I was in school twice, there will plenty of IT jobs, there's no IT jobs requiring an Associate's degree all due to the economy and competitive job market in the Topeka, Kansas area. If there are IT jobs, however, HR Managers are starting to want those with a Bachelor's degree and experience, qualifications, etc. I graduated three months ago, and still unable to find an IT job anywhere in town. The field is in high demand where I live, but there are just too much competition for every IT opening right now. It's no sense applying for jobs, interviewing if I was lucky to get one, and end up losing the position to a more qualified, certified, and experienced job applicant with a Bachelor's degree. I know it's nothing wrong with my interviewing skills nor me, it's the compeititive and crappy job market where I live. I will be attending Washburn University as a full time independent student in August. When I graduate with my Bachelor's degree in the middle of May 2014, there should be more jobs out there because that's when I read the local job market and economy should be turning around by that time.
I don't know what else to do, applying over and over again is getting me nowhere, sending my resume and cover letter in a darkhole is getting me nowhere, and interviewing is getting me nowhere. Might as well go to school and work on a Bachelor's degree while the job market nad economy currently sucks.
Best wishes to the OP. It sounds like a good use of the GI Bill and the time you have because of unemployment. It should certainly lead to something- good on ya for having the guts to make such a move.
Enjoy some of the amazing sights while you are in China. My mom grew up there and had wonderful things to say about the folks and the beauty of the countryside. One of my sons is currently visiting for an extended period of time in South Korea and is loving it. He will eventually come back to the states when he is ready. Good luck and please take some pictures while there and post them for us to see.
