In my industry, we are severely understaffed. There are many vacant spots, and lots of work that needs to be done, but too few qualified applicants or job seekers out there. As a result, we (current employees) take on the extra load and get ridiculous amounts of overtime, if we so chose to.
And there is pretty much guaranteed work at this pace for the next decade here.
So on my end, yes, the job market is beyond excellent. I cannot complain.

I think some of the hiring problems are due to poor hiring skills and the unwillingness of companies to train.

Bingo. Someone posted above and said their company has a lot of vacancies and not enough skilled workers - why doesn't that company train someone then!?

The market is pretty good for many industries. Technology wages have doubled since 2008 in major markets.

The US economy has created a million new jobs in the last three months, half of them high paying skilled positions. Companies concerned with employee retention have also started handing out raises again. This is a great time to be job hunting.
