Sorry guy. I highly doubt that. Unless your job requires you to have FB for some unusual reason, most employers are not going to fire you or not hire you because you don't have a FB profile. If you care about having social media as a professional, join LinkedIn.
Agreed. Plus how did people in IT gets jobs BEFORE Facebook and LinkedIn were around?
Some people look for any old excuse to support employers no matter how intrusive they want to become. But if they want my password, they better be prepared to give me theirs or I am going to tell them to shove it.

Whatever his reasons or intent, he's wrong. There's no way it's true. Maybe for a select few companies, but this does not apply in general. Sounds like someone is just trying to ruffle some feathers (hey, look at how much harder it is to get a job without FB). Know what I mean? There are a lot of people on this forum like that. They just spout something completely off the wall and absurd to get an adverse reaction out of the crowd. It's like entertainment to them.

They didn't need to know it before because they weren't supporting users who interfaced with these technologies. IT needs to be familiar with the technologies their users are using.

If you're referring to me, you might actually want to read the thread in which you are participating in.

I know how to use FB and I no longer have an account. Knowing how to use something and possessing it are two different things.
I remember after September 11th how everyone complained about the Patriot Act and what a heinous invasion of personal privacy it was. Who knew that just a few years later with the advent of Facebook people would give out all their private information willfully - no questions asked or interrogation needed.
Actually, our state government sucks in many ways. On the other hand, as a boss myself, this doesn't seem out of line to me if you read the law. It does not allow employers to get a password any time they want, to use in hiring or performance evaluation. Only when there is a specific investigation where the information could be relevant.
"...allegations of workplace misconduct or giving away an employer’s proprietary information. The amendment would require an investigation to ensure compliance with laws or regulatory requirements.
Under the amendment, employees would be present when their social-network profiles are searched and whatever information found is kept confidential, unless it is relevant to a criminal investigation."
Can't use facts when it comes to those that scream about all the rights they are losing but that can't tell you ONE, which is odd considering ALL and rightS implies more than one.

I have read it. You might want to actually read it yourself before spouting off and implying that one is not employable if they don't have a Facebook profile.
Gee, my boss didn't ask me about facebook. So your point that people are not employable without facebook is wrong and you know it. I am not going to argue over this as I already know how you like to be adversarial.

If you actually read it, then you would know that I want this bill to fail. Clearly that's not in-line with allowing employers to be more intrusive. How about you stop lying.
