I'm just tossing this out. To me, the people I've seen who were more interested in money and prestige than a profession that contributes to the world around them are:
- account execs at advertising agencies
- investment bankers and closely allied professions

Those are some thoughts. Feel free to "correct" me. Add your own to the list.

Car Salesman
Politician
Auto Mechanic
Fortune 500 Executives

But Investment Bankers are definitely in the top 5.

Two lawyers are walking down the street, a willowy blond is walking toward them.
One lawyer says to the other, "Man, would I like to screw her!"

The other lawyer says, 'Really? Out of what?'

Yes, with egos to match.
Car salesman - eh - if you know the invoice price, it's less of a problem. I do way more homework than they like to see.
Auto mechanic - yes, if he/she owns the shop or is the service adviser. The mechanic on the line at the back of the dealership is usually pretty benign.

Let me add another one: DENTIST. Despite it being an "honorable" health profession, I've found a slimy one or two.

Using that definition you could probably throw most people under the umbrella of unethical. Most people care about a paycheck. They don't really care about working for a profession that contributes to the world around them.

I think he meant this.

Payday loan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

High interest short term loans. They tend to proliferate around poor areas, and prey on the most vulnerable segment of society.

But look at the examples the OP threw out there. Account execs at advertising agencies and investment bankers. Not exactly preying on the poor.

Then I guess most people are unethical.
