Wow, I cringed when I saw the title of this post. Glad to see that no one has named journalists YET. I'm constantly hearing how we are all liars, biased, how we slant stories, etc. Some of these accusations have some fair points, though, which is part of the reason why I've lost my passion for the profession.

By and large, journalists are honest.
If there are any slants in a story, I imagine management is the reason for that.

I wish I knew your address so I could come and give you a big hug!
This is exactly the problem. So many of us went to j-school because we had altruistic motives of saving the world and telling the truth; of acting as a check and balance measure for government. Unfortunately media is a business, and certain media outlets insist that their slant favors a particular political crony. With jobs few and far between, often it becomes a choice between making a paycheck and staying true to one's principles. And often, the story we file turns into something else when an editor gets a hold of it.
My current ones are great but in almost 20 years of experience I may have encountered one or two that were decent people. The rest were in it for everything but the kids.
I believe if your profession entails 100% commission...you are pretty unethical.
Financial Advisors come to mind. I worked with plenty that didn't know anything about the business and the standerad line is " Well put the money in xxx fund because I make more in commission." They didn't care one bit about your money..and they are by far the rudest group of people ever. Being screamed at and called names on the phone was also common.

It's depressing.
It's definitely depressing.
But I think this thread is referring to folks who do have a choice in doing the ethical or unethical thing, those who aren't at the beck & call of another level of administration.
