Using your criteria, credit checks, personal references and past history are all an invasion of privacy.
If those give an employer an idea of what sort of employee someone might be, so would a credit check.
I never said, or even implied that checking past employment history, or references, was an invasion of privacy. That's your own presumption. IMHO, credit checks, ARE an invasion of privacy, since they are not necessary to determine if a potential employee is a good fit, for a job.

I believe it has already been discussed a few times in recent threads why credit checks are both necessary and valid for certain types of jobs / positions. Not all, but some.

I was discussing why credit checks shouldn't be allowed, on an arbitrary basis, for every job applicant at every company.
.....it is sooooooooo INSULTING, it's not funny! as if what is being taught to women versus men is somehow different! and the degree itself lists: "MBA: Women's Division" and "MBA: Men's Division"!
The IRONY, is that if it wasn't for the WOMEN, there wouldn't be any men punishing us with their stupid rules!
Men have kids too. In fact, at my previous workplace, the male employees had as many family-related interruptions or reasons to miss any time of work as the female employees.
