Just wait until the US begins issuing more H 1V visas with this new immigration bill. Employers are more willing to give out $10k salaries than $50k+.

The .gov webpage for Maine says the salary range is much higher so I don't know - maybe there's a disproporationate number of people that have been in well over 20 years that's making it that high. At any rate, the positions you'll get through the state directly, or through my University Business School's program, or through job search engines is like mid-to-30,000 range even for CPA's with years of experience.

At any rate, I'm not hurting for money, have a job, and can go to school for free so I'm going to develop skills in other trades while things are down. Maybe things will pick up in a few years and it'll be good to have the degree in Accounting for then, but for now Accounts Payable is not bad and I know at least two other people from my graduating class who are working Accounts Payable as well so it can't be JUST me. There were plenty of others I remember with C grade averages...God knows where they wound up...
FYI, if your state has too restrictive requirements for a CPA license or certificate, you can apply for a license or certificate in another state that doesn't have those requirements.

You only usually need a CPA license in a particular state if you sign an audit opinion in that state. Hardly any accountants do that. You can even take another state's CPA in your home state if you pay a fee and they allow it.

Please can anyone advice me about my chances of getting a full time offer after my internship with a big 4?
I currently have a 3.4, and I am interning with one of the big 4 firms as an intern audit, with the hope that I will have an offer after the summer is over. I recently completed my semester with a C+ grade in my audit class...

I am very worried about this...I am sitting for the audit section of the CPA soon, if I pass, will this help?

Thanks for your advice...

are you aware that you can probably make the same or more money and have more responsibilities in a small to medium size company? Big 4 = Big layoffs. While a small to medium size company can have a more family culture. I would send my resume to small & mid size comapnies

I had a 3.3 overall GPA, one internship of 6 months experience with a non-profit and got a job after 2.5 months in the healthcare industry at a prominent hospital in the nation (patient care, research, and a med school all in one).

I love my job and accounting. I have OCD so I'm sure that's part of the reason I actually like accounting. By title I'm an accountant but the nature of my work is a mixture of accounting and financial analysis. My benefits are incredible - I can see a specialist for $10 and some of my general appointments don't cost me at all. I like the degree because of the flexibility in industries and work types. I got to see a human brain my 2nd day on the job and I love science so this was the perfect mix for me. They also cover a portion of tuition costs after you've been employed a year and many other professional development programs. Hospitals don't like turnover in employees, all of the upper management has been there 20+ years. They need the stability so the invest in keeping their employees - at least in my limited experience.

I am going to grad school because a grad degree is now like a bachelors so I feel it's necessary to remain competitive when I'm in my 30s and 40s. I sure as hell still think my finance degree was worth it more than a liberal arts one.

My coworker has a Masters degree in Accounting and works alongside me, who only has an HS Diploma in the warehouse for a security company.

MY guess is it is all in marketing as who you know in order to get a half-way decent career in accounting. I've graduated one year ago with a BS in Accounting am unable to find work. Now I am starting to just apply for these $8 /hr gigs again. Amazing how backwards life can sometimes become. Even if you wanna to seceded and put years of hard work into something which leads right back to where you were. Which was my whole purpose of getting an education. I would considered continuing on and get my Master's degree but with no work experience in that field, I'll just be deemed as "Overqualified."

I have no idea what the whole purpose of the word, "Entry level" anymore. These days, all these positions required is an minimal of two years experience. Companies wants X-Y-Z. When I first pursue the accounting field for my associates. It used to that some bookkeeping professions would require just a high school diploma with perhaps some additional courses in accounting. These days, the typical requirement is two-four years experience. There is no such thing as "in lieu of experience" anymore.

The other thing is my GPA, I have a 3.67 at my first institution. The majority of the courses were directly related to accounting. Yet the GPA at my second institution, which many of the courses were general studies, I have a GPA of 3.06 [They do not take into account the previous school's GPA]. Within the major, however, it is around 3.36 or so. I've been really reluctant if I should even put that on my resume, which I have not.

So I do not really know. I want to get my career started but I am at a lost here. Any office position or something that is transferable into the Accounting or related field is what I am looking for... I can certainly do the work - no doubt about that. I've been on 14 interviews so far but no type of offer arises from it.

For anyone who want to take up a degree in Accounting. It is not a bad idea but be sure you've already have a job in that field. For those of us who has no experience in that field, I just do not know!! I would hate to take on a $8 gig, but I have to do what I have to do.
