I am getting out of Orlando next year, yeah!! I am moving up in the Banner Elk/Boone/Newland area. I am curious about a few things.
What electric/phone company is used and does anyone know of a adult daycare for people with disabilities? (For my daughter, days only)

I have family who lives in the mountains and I love it there

I'd be interested in knowing if cable internet exists in the Boone area.

My guess would be no. It would be a pleasant surprise to find out, yes.

Isn't Duke power the elec company?

Real pretty up there!

I believe Charter Communications is the cable company in Boone.

Thanks!

Then DEFINITELY check dsl reports dot com and the forum there.

We were told a number of different stories by that company when we tried to buy a house in Columbus NC. Almost had to go to war over 5 K in good faith money as the claim was that high speed was available . I paid to have it installed and it was all BS.

If having an acceptable high speed CABLE connection is an integral part of your business as it is mine, make it a contingency on any offer that at your cost you'll have it installed and it must not only be installed but work according to YOUR satisfaction. Otherwise you might be in for a rude awakening.

In our case by the way, 1st charter told us it was not available. Then they told the realtor who called that it was. Then it wasn't. Then they offerede 8 Meg. Then 10 Meg. Then 5 Meg, I paid for it to be installed and flew up , rented a car, brought in a laptop and tested the speed. 3 MEG!

They told me they would need to change the node for the whole neighborhood in order to upgrade to what they told us was available lol!

A new node? Try 20 grand.

Wasted a couple more thousand dollars because of that "experience".

Be careful!!!

Does anyone know if direct tv works in the mountains? I know it may be a silly question but we love our football.

Sure, as long as your dish has no line-of-sight obstructions to the southern sky.
