Why not move to a state closer to NYC? I am from CT, living in Asheville (been in western NC since 98). I lived in Sc for about 3 years and I am looking to go back up north. Yes you can find somethings to do here, but not near as much as up north. If you like going to the beach, it is at least 4-5 hours away (depending on which one you go to). You can only visit the Biltmore house so many times. Asheville has a lot for people who like to hike and love the mountains. For me it's like a trap, unless you have a really good job to be able to save money and live off of (in case you did not like it and wanted to move). Asheville is the most expensive place in NC to live. Sales tax is at 7%, higher then even CT. Wages are low with minimum at $7.25 I believe. Most place as a server wage is at $2.75 or $3.73 an hour. My sister who lives in CT worked as a server and made $8 or so an hour, plus tips.

Good places to work would be Mission hospital and The Biltmore. There may be a few more. Yes Asheville, is much, much cheaper to live then NYC (I think most places are, lol). I have looked at rents in CT and honestly the rents there are the same as here in Asheville.

My best advice would be to visit here and then visit here some more. I made the biggest mistake with just moving here and not having a back up plan. Yes it was nice for the first 6 months, but then I started to see that it was not all it's cracked up to be. Asheville is great if you are ready to retire and want to slow down in life and not have all the hustle and bustle of a major city. I have heard that Cary, NC is nice and the younger crowd like it there. It is closer to Raleigh. Might want to give it a look.

Oh and I took the advice of my dad on how great NC was. Won't make that mistake again.

^^ Cary would NEVER be somewhere Id recommend a young single to move it. It's all family oriented, very yuppie, and increasingly expensive. Maybe you meant chapel hill where UNC-CH is? I'd recommend Raleigh too but never ever Cary.
