Nope, these absurd prices are the result of the mining boom. Prices are about 4-5x what they would be here for equivalent type of property. It's a small town aswell and generally small towns are much cheaper than the city but in this case the situation is clearly the opposite.

From what I've heard, Melbournes the best City in Australia to live. Perth might have better weather but I'd rather live somewhere awesome.
