I've decided I'm going to try to move to the Mildura-Renmark area on the Murray River. Want to GTFO of the city, the region has a nice climate, housing is dirt cheap, both rent and purchasing, like a 1/3rd what it cost in Melbourne with blocks that are huge, and there are no speed cameras, speed limits are 110km/h on 2 lane roads, it's warm, sunny and nice year round. There is one property going for $220,000 which is a 3br house on a 6 acre block with established and irrigated citrus plantation. Rents are as low as $110-120/week for a small but fully appointed apartment. Infact, in Ouyen, a 1 br apartment with full kitchen and laundry facilities is going for $90 a week!!!!! The same price will buy you an outhouse in Melbourne, even in the outer suburbs. FFS what the **** am I still doing in Melbourne?
Plus, the area is epic for astronomy. I've been on houseboats there and the night sky is a religious experience.

I would love to travel to the Southern hemisphere. I wonder how it changes perspective on the world when people can regularly see the rest of the milky way instead of staring off into space and seeing emptiness. Having the wonders of science stare them in the face should be great.
Seeing the Magellenic clouds and the section of MilkyWay from Orion to Crux from a dark sky location is something that cannot be expressed in words. I have yet to see the centre of the Milky Way in Sagittarius/Scorpius directly overhead from a truly dark site.... I am going to drive up to the deserts between Mildura and Broken Hill in July to see this. 100km from the nearest light bulb....
