Frost in northeastern Minnesota tonight? (record, temp, day, freeze)

It is a bit early for them to get frost for sure.
I expect interior northern Wisconsin up on the plateau (Rhinelander, Eagle River) to get to freezing or below tonight. Elevations there are between 1600ft to 1700ft.

Your welcome! Yeah, I was hearing it on TWC alot last night too. Now they have been talking about how it has spread into northern Wisconsin and Michigan tonight... I am sure its even more unusual there than northern MN. I hope its not a sign of a harsh cold winter!

We typically are "frost free" until mid October... sometimes late October. Where some of my family lives in NW South Carolina... they dont typically get a frost until November.

Reminds me of Sky Harbor, just 7 or so miles from the Duluth International Airport. Difference is it's 800 feet lower in elevation and surrounded by water on two sides. The end of the frost-free season there, according to the airport weather station (which I have some doubts about) was...

2008: October 28th
2007: October 28th (though it fell to 32 on September 15th)
2006: October 12th (fell to 32 a few times before)
2005: November 14th (no kidding)
2004: November 11th
2003: October 2nd
2002: October 7th (32 on September 25th)
2001: October 7th
2000: September 24th

Of official weather stations, Crane Lake and Bigfork, MN, both far north, are at 37f and 39f respectively. Hibbing was at 37f and suddenly rose to 41f. I'm having trouble finding any PWS's that are colder...the frosts in Minnesota might be very localized events, perhaps in low-lying areas. Warmest in Minnesota is 55F in Fergus Falls, in the Northwest. Perhaps from all the people at the State Fair, St. Paul is still at 52F.

Wisconsin is a different story right now. Eagle River is at 32F at 12:55 am...they might reach the 20's tonight. Several other stations in Northcentral Wisconsin are also in the 30's....Rhinelander at 37 for example. As of now, warmest in Wisconsin is 58F in Burlington...quite a change from Eagle River!

Also let's not forget the U.P. 30's in several locations as of 2:15 AM EDT, the coldest being Iron Mountain, at 36f. Even the L.P. is cold...Cadillac is at 39F right now.

Yep, its a little crisp this a.m.! They said on the news Door County and NE lake shore is cooler than expected. I'm happy, slept with those windows open, used my quilt!

A friend visited from Illinois Saturday he said, are you crazy, this house is cold! Don't you turn on the furnace? I let him turn on the gas fireplace to take the chill off! Tee hee!

I haven't checked lake temps lately but with the cool summer I'm thinking the lake didn't warm up as much. I'm hoping we'll get some sunny, warm, above normal in Sept. as we need the lake warmth for our winter weather!

Actually, here in Dallas, we have enjoyed some below average temps for late August. We have had temps in the high 80's and low 90's which is quite cool for August here. Usually, we don't see temps this cool till after Labor Day or late September/early October sometimes.

Looks like Crane Lake and Bigfork only made it to 29 last night. Now that is region is back into the 50's and 60's.

Hibbing (a decent-sized community about an hour north of me) DID however have a frost, with temperatures bottoming out at 30 degrees. It doesn't appear that a frost was recorded at any other "official" station. The Silver Bay airport (inland, not along the lake) saw 33 degrees.

A handful of locations in NC WI had a frost, with the coldest being Tomahawk which got down to 29 degrees.
