Winds of 100km/h(62mp/h) - 167km/h(104mp/h) have been reported throughout Northland this morning. Forecasts of the air pressure falling to 959hPa(28.3 inch I beleive).

Lucky its a fast moving storm so it wont affect too many places for too long.

Notice a HPA, amazingly low, it is usually around 1010 in Auckland.

10,000 skiers on Mt Ruapehu had to be exacuated, god knows why they were up there anyway when they knew what was coming.

So far widespread flooding on low-lying coastal areas, closed NZ's most northern cities CBD.

The Desert Road has also been closed due to snow.

Power outages being report in Auckland (New Zealand's biggest city)

More updates as they come in

From New Zealand's Weather Watch Centre (Weather Watch | New Zealand's only regular weather news source) Posted by wwakld on Sun, 27/07/2008 - 00:16

"...Meanwhile another big storm in the northern Tasman Sea is predicted for early to mid next week travelling on a similar path except slightly further south which could see heavy rain over western and northern regions of both islands. "We'll release more details on this storm during Sunday afternoon but at this stage it will affect northern, central and westerns parts of both Islands with severe gales and torrential rain"."

Mattyj46, you guys have another one coming!? And with the potential to disrupt lives clear down to Stewart Island?
I know NZ is no stranger to storms but these two are a bit thick even by "roaring 40's" standards. Hunker down and take care.....Thanks for the updates, FV.

That is awful!!! Hopefully there were no fatalities. It sounds like your winter is going to turn into Summer 2004 in Florida.

Where you have the number 967.8 or something like that, is that the same as our millibars? They say that if the millibars drop really low, it means the storm is intensified. It seems like it was in 2004 that they dropped lower then ever recorded.

Just wanted to add~New Zealand looks very pretty and green. Just kind of noticed that alongside the destruction.

I had the pleasure of finally getting to New Zealand in 2003 and I have to say it's one of THE MOST beautiful places I've ever been.

A breathtakingly beautiful place, with so many natural wonders. It's like being on a film set or captured in a postcard, you look at your surroundings and it feels surreal it's so perfect. Impossibly perfect. Hard to explain.

Just hope everybody stays safe and damage is as minimal as possible.

Damage was fairly minimal as the storms was very fast moving, most of the damage seems to be from flooding and winds bringing down powerlines, trees etc. Got off rather lightly

There was a wind gust of 174km/h(108mp/h) late last night.
