Hobart - Whangarei is not sunny enough with around 1900 hours. Also too wet! Hobart's sunshine advantage is quite big. Glenbervie Forest near Whangarei averages over 1800mm annually. In the record-breaking wet spell April-August 1956 over much of the North Island, that site scored well over 1000mm rainfall in April-May alone. However the Nino-biased period 1977-1997 lowered the averages - about time it happened again.
Palms that could thrive in Whangerei would probably die in the ass in Hobart.
