Dews went down fast after around 330am. 56f for the first time since May. Cleaning the outside of the house since 530am. Nice not to sweat after 5+ months.

30s and 40s this morning. Turned the furnace on for the first time this fall.

Mainly dry with temps at or above normal until next weekend when another cool shot comes.

Normal high/low at Chicago/ORD for October 17th is 66/45F and by the 23rd it's 60/43F

Models continue to show overall warmer than normal conditions right through the end of the month. Some runs are showing cool shots especially in the Northeast but not breaking this above normal pattern in the Central US.

Got a decent amount of rain last night (0.4 in/10 mm) and the temperatures have finally cooled down. Low this morning was 47 F/8 C and it's only forecast to reach 59 F/15 C today. 50 F/10 C and mostly cloudy at 9AM.

An atmospheric river brought some very impressive rainfall totals to Vancouver and points north in the last 48 hours. There was a strong rainfall gradient as a result. Some rainfall totals for last 3 days:

Victoria airport: 15.3 mm
Vancouver airport: 74.5 mm
Squamish: 151.1 mm

Radar loop during the event (Saanich is Victoria FYI).

What's interesting is that despite the reverse west wind flow Tampa has still had more rain since September 1 than I have had since March 1.

Rainfall year to date:
Tampa 45.9 inches
Victoria 17.2 inches

Temp here is 83, dry, low humidity. Cool front just passed through. Sunny and mid 80s in October. if it were summer, would be 10 degrees hotter.

That was summer. I was taking fall only. I have not had a drop in almost a month. I have only had around 34" total this year. Not one drop of rain for Jan, March, May and so far Oct. Only had about 6" total well into June. We don't have a west flow in the fall. Plus i am not near Tampa and i avg much less rain every summer vs Tampa thanks to a west flow.

Typical October weather today. 67F at MDW 66F at ORD and 64F here at 3pm under mostly sunny skies. A bit warmer for the first half of the week

Euro still showing overall warm pattern for much of the rest of the month

Bastardi says this extremely early SSW event has some analogs. Actually very exciting analogs for the Midwest but I'm going to wait and see it play out first
