Yeah you'll definitely need snowcover. We have a couple inches and look at our temps this morming

-3F at ORD, -1F at MDW, 25 miles west -13F in Aurora (usually coldest spot in the winter)

I've noticed the forecasts have backed off from the most extreme cold, too. Usually happens. Still a very cold forecast.

Current northern hemisphere 850 hPa anomaly temperature map. Warm air over most much of Eurasia, cold for North America outside of the southwest.



Europe above freezing well into Russia

Erie, PA has over 100" of snow this month now

The snow hasn't let up, and now they have gotten over 60" from this storm alone.

They are also expected to get another 15-20" over the next 5 days

Euro has ORD at -13F /-25C on New Years day which is when I'm leaving for Phoenix (that evening).

Up to 20cm of snow predicted for Vancouver by tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully we avoid the transition to ZR later tomorrow.
