Strong winds again today. Kinda fun when you dont look at the "whys" and just enjoy the weather as it happens. Temps in mid 40s with 30mph wind gusts. Sunny with some clouds around
Looks like the sun is trying to shine through at 4000' in Adirondacks right now.
NWS Albany mentions the snowpack.. I wonder what the lowest elevation there is with snow. For them to put in their discussion, gotta be at least 1500'??

Tricky temperature forecast for tonight as high pressure flashes across the forecast area. The timing of
the high should be ideal for radiational cooling. However, it
shifts east of the forecast area quickly in our progressive
pattern, which could allow for a light southerly/easterly wind
to develop late tonight, boosting temps back up. MOS numbers are
generally colder than the superblend guidance (which
incorporates raw 2m temperatures) and is preferred. The thought
is that, even over our Adirondack zones where some wind may
occur late tonight, the fresh snow pack should result in a quick temperature drop. Elsewhere, winds are more likely to be calm
much of the night, and will look for widespread teens (single
digits at higher elevations).
I see there's a cold front at the surface pushing south too.
On Tuesday December 5th a front will be coming across East of the Mississippi. Behind it the Jet stream will dig dig dig. This map is for evening of Dec 7th. 510 Thickness into Great Lakes. 528 down to Northern Georgia.
was this a joke? Well into Dfb zone, January high isn't even above freezing. Station is clearly at elevation, July high is barely above 25°C cool for eastern North America at 42°N
the usual transition from sunshine in New York City to gloomy shroud upstate is striking in early winter. Usually occurs around 70-110 miles northwest of NYC.
