Here is how much falls from next week's system, that map is the total from this week's system and next week's. This one just a 24 hour period from the system for next week.
huh, that's different; looks like the hills to the west will be the best
Explaining the Upper Level pattern for the 3 snow events coming..
Storm #1. This is the current flow, see how its just flat...zonal mostly across the U.S. No ridge, no troughs. So storms fly in and out. That's why Friday snow is only 1-3" and a fast mover.
Storm # 2 this weekend.. Notice a little ridge forming in the West, probably because the strong trough digging down in the east but too strong the storm staying suppressed south.
More importantly, a storm cannot come up the coast with this pattern. And it's not. Going Out to sea after it exits Carolinas.
Snowstorm #3. The Biggy?
Note the amped pattern. Ridge in West. Trough in East. This pattern supports the coastal and the Jet streams Phasing to become a Boom storm. But where. Location. Location. Location.
Just a reminder...Models are not forecasts or guarantees. They are simply a possibility based on current conditions and percentages to put together an end result.
All we can do is watch the consistency of things.
New GFS 18z has the Tuesday storm still. Biggy. Here is a loop of the storm its picking up. See it blow up on the coast? Fresh Arctic air around.
This is the Snow total today till next Wednesday evening based on that run.. It includes Friday 1-4" of snow as well. I seriously doubt this.
