It was warmer and cloudier than average.

The last May that was warmer and sunnier than average was in 2011 (2008 was warmer but also had below average sun).

The last time May had above average sunshine before 2011 was in 2005.

The best Mays in the last 30 years were these...

May 1989: 21.0c, 310 hrs sun
May 1990: 20.5c, 287 hrs sun
May 1992: 21.0c, 272 hrs sun
