Was the 29C (?) in October a once-in-100-years event, or what is the 2nd highest record in October? What is the May record in Leeds?
That Sept-Oct 2011 warm spell basically was a once-in-100-years event, it broke five consecutive national daily records if I remember, one or two from early October 1985 and the rest from 1908.
I think our October record (26.5C) is the hardest of all our monthly records to break, a combination of more or less perfect synoptics and perfect timing. The May record (26.0C) was recorded on 14 May 1992 unless I've missed something, so the potential is there to add a degree or two onto that if the same synoptics happened a couple of weeks later.

Too bad we had the warm burst a bit too early in 2011. Helsinki Airport's October record is 18.2C, but hit 21.7C on 30 September 2011. One day too early.

Our October and November records were both broken on the 1st and look very hard to beat. The 18.2C on 1 November 2015 is two whole degrees above any other November day we've ever had, even if we did have 18.5C on 31 October 2014, and 17.0C on 31 October 2016 for that matter. What was impressive about that was that we had clear blue skies all day long and the record was set in the afternoon a la summer, most really mild November days are overcast and windy and have the daily high occur whenever.
The December record was broken on the 19th in 2015, so we supposedly could push that 14.3C (recorded just before sunrise on a cloudy morning, with no help from the sun whatsoever!) up to 15C if it happened a bit earlier. The February record also has the potential to go over 15C with the right timing, ours is 14.7C, recorded on the 13th in 1998. I'm actually surprised we haven't got that close to beating that one in recent years considering September-January and March-April have all gone in the past six years.
I think the March/April records are fairly late on when you'd expect them to be, don't have time to look them up.
It can seem recent or far away depending on how you recall the memories. Quite often I'll recall very vivid memories from that long ago, and it will literally feel like yesterday. But then when I recall all the events that have happened in my life since then, and how much things have changed, it then does start to feel like another lifetime.
When you look beneath the surface, it's amazing how much the world has changed since 2007. Political events and technological change is always the most surprising. Go back to the start of 2007, Facebook was still emerging and Twitter was less than 6 months old, the financial crisis was up yet to happen, few of us had ever heard of Barack Obama, China had a smaller economy than Germany, Michael Jackson was still alive, and Donald Trump was just that guy from the Apprentice.
When I see photos from 10/15 years ago I'm amazed by how old the cars look. Not only that, look at the high end phones we used back then, they're practically junk now. Tablet computers also didn't exist, I can't imagine life without them!

Music's always evolving, which is why it's one of the best things to evoke memories of certain time periods. I think the only thing more effective at evoking memories is smell.
Just noticed our met office now officially has a very old all-time record low for Oslo:
-29.6C on January 21. 1841.
That's...176 years ago.
Also notice that Oslo has pretty warm spring record highs, in my view. 21.5C in March and 25.9C in April.
A lot of Oslos heat records are very old. The weather station in more recent decades has not been in the city center but further away and higher up (94 m at Blindern).
Our airport has consistently recorded significantly lower daily temperatures (and often night temperatures as well) than all nearby stations. It's especially weird because it's closer to the sea, closer to Umeå's UHI and lower altitude than the other stations as well. Umeå is generally always warmer on average than these other nearby places except Holmsund which lies on the coast is of course warmer in winter.
These are the temps right now. Seems so fishy.

I haven't found any. Warmest I have seen might the that 28.3°C avg high at Nesbyen I posted at the Cherrypick-thread.
