62 degrees with full sunshine. I must suffer from SAD because I haven't felt this energized/motivated in a while.

When theres warm on one side, theres cold on the other. Now I know how Oregon felt past few yrs with constant heat surges.

Could this be the last "rise" that far north for the jet? Ha!

Next weekend total opposite. Very Cold! Lets do the dance. Dip dance

NAM says the 60s stop in central NJ Saturday. Just multiple days in a row of 50s northwards.
gotta love New England though... and Northern Maine. Even though above normal, they struggle past 30s. (Normal is upper 20s now for Northern Maine)

Reminds me of Dec 06

The cool thing? In early January 2016, when GISS updates, we can compare the two.

This month looks to be warmer than Dec '06 in my area. Dec '06 produced 4 nights below 30 F in Savannah and there were no days where the high hit 80 F. My area will be hard pressed to reach freezing even 1 night if this month's pattern continues.

It feels like it's been longer than that lol. Maybe it's just me getting a full night's sleep for once, in addition to the warmth. But these temps have really made me notice just how potent our sunshine is even near the winter solstice, it just felt golden today. Invigorating.

I never knew you got winter SAD, it's your favorite time of year.

Seen this story with this tweet here.

A NOAA meteorologist explains why the Northeast and Midwest are so warm this December.

Much more to the story with the link. He talks about the patterns, AO, Nino, California, ect.

Here's why it is so warm on the East Coast

Quote:
Warmer weather in the Northeast is sometimes seen with a strong El Nino pattern, such as the one that's happening now. But at least one meteorologist said something else is more likely the reason the coats and gloves are gathering moths right now

The warmth seen in the Northeast and such normally cold cities as Chicago is "really associated with the strengthened polar vortex," said Mike Halpert, deputy director of the Climate Prediction Center at the National Weather Service.

"I would not associate the lack of snow in Buffalo with El Nino," Halpert said on a call with reporters on Thurdsay. "It is much more likely the Arctic Oscillation."

"Arctic Oscillation" is a change in air pressure at the North Pole that affects how far south cold air travels from the Arctic.

First, it is important to understand a phenomenon called the polar vortex. The polar vortex is a ring of cold winds that swirls around the north pole (there is one at the South Pole, as well). Low pressure keeps those winds — and the cold air they carry — wrapped around the poles. At the furthest perimeter of this vortex is a jet stream of fast-moving, cold air.
