Knock Knock... Who's at the backdoor... A cold front. Philly is not letting them in yet.
Current 11am temps
85°F in Philly. 69° in Trenton, NJ. 50s on Long Island and MA capes. Surface winds right off the Atlantic.
Bridgeport not reporting for some reason. 59 at New Haven. Chilly morning without Sun
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ
1044 AM EDT MON MAY 18 2015
A BACKDOOR FRONT MOVING SOUTHWESTWARD THROUGH THE REGION WILL
STALL TODAY.
THE FORECAST CHALLENGES INCLUDE THE LOW CLOUDS ASSOCIATED WITHTHE DEVELOPING ONSHORE FLOW AND THE CONVECTIVE INITIATION ANDCOVERAGE.THE BACKDOOR COLD FRONT IS PUSHING THROUGH THE NORTHERNHALF OF NEW JERSEY AND NORTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA AS NOTED BY THENORTHEAST WIND SHIFT. WITH THE WIND SHIFT COMES THE LOWERING OFDEWPOINTS BUT ALSO A STABLE MARINE LAYER WITH SOME FOG AND STRATUS.CURRENTLY THE STRATUS IS JUST TO THE NORTHEAST OF TRENTON BUT HASENVELOPED MOST OF NE NJ AREA AS IT LAGS SEVERAL MILES BEHIND THEFRONT.
When is that cold front going to hit the Philadelphia area?
And Lol.. lower 80s in Scranton and lower 60s in NYC.
I never found these backdoor fronts go too far past the NJ/PA border. Maybe I haven't been following long enough but maybe central PA at best. There's always a warm front or something to the West or south which deteriorates or stops it. Looks like at the 1pm OBS Philly was feeling the front edge of it. Temps dropped to 70s thanks to the clouds from it.
Check out CT... Bright sun on Eastern Side, Cloudy on Western Side. Comfortable 62° here while its mid 70s in Hartford.
57 near Point Pleasant NJ. (Belmar)
Then.... tomorrow... Looks like I'm gonna be 10+ above todays max in the 70s because a warm front lifts north... but then a cold front comes through and 60s are the max the next day.
Idk if it's just me, but it seems like a new trend this season where Scranton is hanging on to warmth significantly longer than places even to its due south and southeast. Still at 80 there while the Lehigh Valley has dropped to the mid 70s and even Philly is in the upper 70s. I do know Scranton is further from the oceanic influence than either of those places, but it's still a bit strange considering its elevation and latitude.
Also, as of 3pm, it's down to 62 in Trenton NJ and still hanging on to 85 in Wilmington DE, and 90 in Washington

Yeah, that warmth wants to keep pushing north but these ocean influence situations keep preventing it in areas u mentioned. Its 82 in Montreal. 83 in Burlington VT.
Meanwhile.. I'll have to keep an eye on this.. Would have to cover some stuff if it gets bad here.
Quite the chill in the Upper Midwest. Here in Grand Forks ND 34 degrees at 2 pm this Monday afternoon with a north wind to 35 mph. Had some sleet, freezing drizzle earlier...car windows iced up this morning. Some places in north central North Dakota into south central Manitoba 3-6 inches of snow....Harvey....Rugby....Rolla ND area the north to west of Winnipeg.

Nice to see your post! Feels like it's been since winter... Thanks for the reminder to check...
Currently it's feeling like 20s/30s in the Upper Mid West & Iowa & temps are in the 70s/80s in the East up to Canada. I can't pass mid 60s thanks to the Atlantic Ocean cold front.
That looks sweet there! NNW winds and feels like below freezing with snow/sleet near the border...
South wind in Ohio Valley and notice the pop up thunderstorms.
Farmers in Iowa must not be liking that! Actual Temps in the 40s in northern Iowa this afternoon.
only thing the NWS forecast discussion has on the upcoming weekend, I'm thinking they're waiting to use the models for forecasts:
THURSDAY...AFTER THE CHILLY START HIGH PRESSURE SHOULD PROVIDE A
FAIR DRY DAY. MIXING SHOULD REACH 800 MB WHERE TEMPS 0-2C SUPPORT
MAX SFC TEMPS 65 TO 70.
FRIDAY-SATURDAY-SUNDAY... UPPER SHORTWAVE AND CORRESPONDING SURFACE
COLD FRONT SWEEP THROUGH ON FRIDAY. THIS MAY CAUSE WIDELY SCATTERED
SHOWERS BUT PRECIP WATER VALUES AT OR BELOW 0.5 INCHES SUGGEST A DRY
ENVIRONMENT TO OVERCOME. WE USED LOW-END SLIGHT CHANCE POPS FOR THIS
PASSAGE. HIGH PRESSURE THEN BUILDS EAST SATURDAY AND PROVIDES DRY
WEATHER MUCH OF THE WEEKEND.
57 F on this refreshing afternoon, dipping down to 54 F with overcast skies tonight .
