Couldn't find the drought thread. Dry conditions developing here in the northeast, but nothing serious at this point.

I've never seen such weird charts in my life. How the cold plume of air can simply be stationary directly over the UK and nowhere else I cannot understand at all. Everywhere else at our latitude is warmer and we have this permanent tongue of cold air lapping over us come what may. Weird as hell. Maybe it's true that "global warming" will warm everywhere in the world except the UK, as some other chart suggested.
For some (totally unscientific) reason I always had a good "feeling" about summer 2015, that it may have some notable warm periods or records. Still my confidence is eroding quickly now, though the intuition is still there.

Er. I think its obvious. Greenland is permanently frozen in the summer which means that it can pump out cold air and because we are close it will hit us. There is nowhere else in the northern hemisphere that is sub zero in the summer not even the north pole.

It's like a freezer door that stays open all the time, huh? Makes sense why the UK stays so cool in summer, especially N.I.
What owen is describing only happens when there is strong high pressure over greenland. The right synoptic conditions have to be present for the cold air to go from greenland to here. Clearly it doesn't happen all the time in summer, but when it does, it can last far too long for my liking.
