Can't all this rain be happening out west? We need it a lot more than the east does.

Baltimore just got 6.12" of rain. 2nd highest 1 day total next to August 23, 1933. Still raining there.

Ouch. And why is that section of the road not cordoned off?
Downtown Baltimore has 5.19" of rain so far today. Now the wettest August day there since the MD Science Center station opened in January 1999.

TWC showed some spot near BWI with 10.2". Absolutely insane.

Over here it seems we've again reached our monthly allowance of summer weather. Dewpoint just fell below 60F and no rain forecast the entire rest of the week.

A ton of rain here too. It's been raining since about 12:15. It's now 5:22. Roads were a mess with puddles when I drove home from work at 4:00.

A way to see how much moisture the atmosphere is holding is to look at the PWAT Values.

1.2-1.4" pretty normal for summer.

1.9"+ = Heavy Downpour Rain Potential.

Current PWAT Values.

Good blog explaining it.
