18th of October and 1st of May for Umeå Airport, but it's very prone to frost traps. I'd guess perhaps 1st of November and 15th of April for the actual city.

No month averages below 0C. Coldest is December with 0.8C at the airport and a couple of degrees higher in the city. We get on average of 40-45 freezes a year though.

I used 1981-2010 data for the ten largest US metro areas (using the consistently reported station closest to downtown). The number in front of the cities is the number of days between the two averages.
121: Chicago (Midway): November 21-March 22.
108: Boston (Logan): December 5-March 23.
94: Philadelphia (Airport): December 7-March 11.
82: New York (Central Park): December 18-March 10.
72: Washington (Reagan): December 18-February 29.
0: Atlanta (Airport): None.
0: Dallas (Love Field): None.
0: Houston (Hobby): None.
0: Los Angeles (Downtown): None.
0: Miami (Airport): None.
