They're having a hard time figure out the next phase. I was going to post a few things but forgot. If we keep getting solar flares its game over for a warming stratosphere. But look to the pacific ocean which has a ridge popping over the alutian islands which will keep sending troughs into central and eastern US.

Just imagine one thing.... We had true blocking and this arctic air got stuck for weeks.

That's just 1 possiblity I foresee but its at the bottom range of percentages.

no sunspots, Warming strat = higher chances for blocking. Get another arctic high to drop and we're locked on cold with a still active subjet

Just heard our 9PM forecast where our local guru meteorologist Tom Skilling said that two key indecies that bring cold air into the eastern US have turned decidedly negative on a "couple" of the models.

Don't know, but the CPC is also saying a greater chance of below average temps in both the 6-10 day and 8-14 day period

Quote:
Meteorological winter to date averaging just 19.8 deg, 8.1 deg below average and 9th coldest on record since 1870-71, among coldest 6%.

Will get to this little bit later. See Chicagogeorge maps below your post (hopefully they are still maps). Simple answer is yes.

Historical Flooding in Miami. Over a foot of rain in spots! I wonder if "Sub Tropical Jet" will be the viral word of the month soon. That thing has the spigot open for 1 month now.

We got a light dusting of snow today morning and the current temperature is 27 F. It will all melt away by today afternoon and heavy rain is predicted along with a rapid warmup tonight.

How are the conditions where you live Camby.

Winter is coming, but only to Northern and Northeastern Europe:

And finally, you could say. The record low for my location so far this winter is -10.8C (13F) and the second lowest -7.6C (18F), so you can say the cold really hasn't been with us.

Snow depth in Finland this morning:

The northern half has up to 75 cm (over 2ft 5 in) snow lying, the southern half nada. In a couple of days everywhere will be white.
