I see many folks ask questions relating to this... Sometimes all it takes is watching the OBS and reading some NWS discussions to learn this stuff.

It's always very cool to see this happen. Within miles around here you can go from cool temps in mid 50s to warm temps mid 60s. But lets focus on something else....

Here are the current Dew points.

30s/40s near the coasts, 10s inland.

Dry = Warmer. Moist = Cooler

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
357 PM EDT MON APR 21 2014

NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM TUESDAY MORNING/...

A TYPICAL SPRING SCENARIO FOR THE REGION LATE THIS AFTERNOON. WARMEST IN THE LOWER HUDSON VALLEY WITH BOUNDARY LAYER MIXING ALLOWING DEWPOINTS TO BE IN THE TEENS. MEANWHILE SOUTHEAST CONNECTICUT IS THE COOLEST SPOT WITH A LIGHT ONSHORE BREEZE PROMOTING HIGHER DEWPOINTS IN THE LOWER 40S.

CLOUDS REMAIN MINIMAL INTO EARLY THIS EVENING AND THIS SHOULD CONTINUE THROUGH MUCH OF TONIGHT WITH THE RESIDUAL SUBSIDENCE OFTHE WEAKENING HIGH PRESSURE AREA.

RADIATIONAL COOLING WILL BE MORE OPTIMAL AND ACROSSEASTERN LONG ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST CONNECTICUT...WHERE DEWPOINTS WILL BE RELATIVELY HIGHER...SOME SHALLOW PATCHY GROUND FOG WILL DEVELOP IN THE COOLEST SPOTS.

Dew points in the Caribbean & Gulf areas right now. They must be so used to this. I would go nuts if it started this early. Morning Temps in the 70s & 80s too.

Keep it there, don't move it north! 32°F DP here. 58°F with Clear skies and light breeze. Awesome Spring!

Look at that dry air making its way in on back side of storm AND look at the moisture pull from the gulf right into the storm.

Quick graph I made showing the dewpoint max at BDR for March through today time period.

Even though we had a crazy number of days last year above 60 & 70F, Spring seemed as dry as this year.

Only 9 times so far 50+. Same last year. 20 times in 2012. So 2012 was much more muggier in the Spring.

See the post above by someone from Indonesia. Except he has no start, it's constant.
