I'm curious how unusual a stretch of high dew points like this is. Not the dew point itself, which we get every summer, but the length of the high humidity, it's US South-like. Normally we get a dew point of 75°F a few times a year, but it's generally a short time for a couple of hours and then goes back down. And doesn't return for a while. So far this month every day has reached a dew point of 75°F (well, one day 74°F instead, but close enough). The last time the dew point went below 70°F was June 29 (right after a thunderstorm). And every day since June 23 has reached a dew point of 70°F or above sometime in the day.
The month to date average dew point for July is 74°F.
I'm curious myself. I think maybe we can look at the 500mb maps and look for times the Bermuda high lingered. Sounds time consuming to do. Or look at the daily records which takes even more time.
I'm thinking back to the patterns of this year and maybe all that blocking we had is having an affect now because the Bermuda high can't shift east? Not sure. All I know is its stuck and pumping tropical dew points up.
Might last all month with just couple of short lived breaks
Dew point dropped to 71°F (22°C)! Wind shifted to the northwest, a sign of drier air?
Funny how we're getting excited for a drop to 71° huh. We've been tropicked (torch version of tropical humidity)
A boundary layer showed up. Look at the clouds on the MA/CT border left and right.
Looks like northwest winds are drying air out. Dewpoints in the lower to mid 60s in spots.
Long Island still has a south wind. I have a West and NorthWest wind at times. Dewpoint 72.4°F
