That's the great thing about living in a small country like the UK.. I live in a large city, the coast line is only 40 miles away, and I'm literally right next door to the mountains where snow is extreme - everything is here!
I've had about as good of weather as you'll get here in October for the past 3 days. Highs in the low 70s and lows in the upper 40s/low 50s. Back to hot/humid next week, but a cold front is supposed to hit around October 29th/30. Let's hope so.
Another nonsense forecast -- was supposed to be 24 C / 75 F today, ended up with 19 C / 67 F. And the next two days are looking cold and rainy. I really hate living here.

Quoted as 21C later on in the day from one source, for what it's worth.
Another beautiful mild autumn day today, sunny from about 11am onwards with a high of 18.7C, because of the strong wind rather than in spite of it that is. It felt warm even though we've got to the stage when the sun has barely any noticeable strength in it. I went for a bike ride in the countryside north of London to see the foliage, which is variable depending on tree species, but I think generally a bit late, which makes sense. Some of the ground is still cracked from the dry weather, which I have certainly never seen before at this time of year. Some photos:
Nice photos. Don't think I've seen cracked ground here; definitely not this year. I got inspired to go on a bike ride, too and take some photos. Went on an 8 mile loop from my house. Was rather chilly in the 50s.
A few came out well but nowhere as good as the mountain ones some people posted earlier:
Stupid Dunedin got 24 C! Even now they're at 20 C. I've noticed that the hottest days in Dunedin tend to be warmer than those in ChCh.
Probably not a PWS, was quoted on TVNZ, not sure of source. In general, your speculation about Dunedin is wrong - you are being influenced by a few one-offs.

I have just checked their website - it was MetService. 21.1C maximum at Christchurch Airport. If you insist on quoting "up to the minute" data, you could try getting it right, instead of pushing your agenda.
You would perhaps envy Dunedin's weather during the Nino-dominated period 77-97? 1376 hours of sunshine in 1983 (the same year Ch'ch got 2145, and was the only area in the whole country that wasn't below average). Realistically Dunedin's sunshine mean is about 400-475 hours lower than Christchurch's, though in the last decade its figures have been much better than earlier - but then that's data from an EWS, and is almost certainly too optimistic.
