Tanger is simply in a more densely populated area than the Simon property will be. Perhaps they will attract those from Rockville north? But I think Tanger at National Harbor would be a lot more fun to visit.

The only caveat I see is if Simon has a much better retail mix than Tanger. People will usually travel for the brands they like.
You have a point. I was looking for any justification to add more stores to be more competitive with others in the area..

Simon/Premium does have some nice brands. Considering they will be in MC, I am sure they will bring out the big guns. Additionally, having the benefit of opening last and on a bigger lot, I am sure that they will have more incentive to come hard to draw from the DMV. Agree that NH will have an advantage with some of the other amenities based on what I have seen planned to support their outlet.

It is interesting that Arundel Mills didn't bring out the big guns being in an affluent area as well. I think the two cities mirror each other in terms of density and demographics. Even with Maryland Live!, Arundel Mills hasn't done much to increase premium offerings.

Redstone American Grill will be opening May 5th at the National Harbor. Menu looks pretty good. Definitely plan to check it out. Redstone American Grill - National Harbor

Also the Gaylord has a new coffee house on called The Cocoa Bean. They will be serving house blends and starbucks coffee. DC Waterfront Restaurants

As some of you may know Cirque Du Soliel will be coming back in July. They are going to move them from the Plateau to that open lot behind the Residence Inn. IMO that is where it should have been all along. Makes it more assessable from the parking lots and restaurants.

I was told by one of the shop owners that they are going to bring a new event targeted towards kids and families beginning in November and ending in January. Don't have any details but its supposed to be different from ICE.

Finally I received a little clarification on the Capital Wheel ticket cost. Apparently the $15 bucks is for a day pass not just one "ride".

Thanks for the update! Also, any word on that big announcement from Peterson? Or did we miss it? lol

When I was at NH a few weeks ago, I saw the construction of Redstone. It has an awesome outside patio area with an outside bar! I love restaurants that have a nice outside experience to offer. No one wants to be cooped up inside all the time.

Interesting update. And as Adelphi said, any word on Petersons' big announcement? I'm also excited to hear that Redstone will offer an outdoor dining experience as well! I love restaurants with open-air seating either on the patio, the back, or on the sidewalk

That Redstone Grill place looks pretty good. The ambiance looks very nice.

On the topic of Tanger, I believe they could add more to it. I was surprised how small it is. I actually think the parking lot is too big. I could see them adding another section in the future.

Under their current approved plan they can add 12k to building 8 but I agree. they could decrease the parking lot size once other nearby parking becomes available in 2016.

Prince George's planners praise MGM National Harbor as a 'landmark'

I must admit this report does lay it on thick. After reading I thought that they needed to get a room but as a development it does stand out. Unique design, LEED Certification, etc.

Quote:
A few quick takes from the staff report:
"The proposed entertainment venue will integrate harmoniously into the existing development of National Harbor and the surrounding uses, including the recently opened Tanger Outlet Center."
"The planning and design of this iconic building will achieve economies of scale and savings in energy when compared to construction of a number of individual projects occupying the same land area. This intensive use of the land, for over a million square feet of mixed-use development, at the gateway to the state of Maryland and Prince George’s County will provide for optimum land use planning."
"This project will contribute to the economic vitality of the overall National Harbor development and is a substantial investment in the County by the applicant."
"The architectural elevations and perspective drawings for the site demonstrate a landmark building of a magnitude never before constructed in Prince George’s County. Not only is the design of the building modernly elegant, it is distinctive and provides a significant architectural quality worthy of the entrance into the County from Virginia and into the State of Maryland."

Group wants MGM held accountable in casino construction, hiring

Hmmm....

This seems like more fodder than anything else. MGM has already signed agreements with the unions, and the law requires that some of the money generated from the casino goes towards infrastructure and safety improvements within a five mile radius of the site. Also they already have a track record of hiring locally and buying from local businesses. Why would that change for PGC? They are also establishing a training facility nearby and working with PGCC to establish vocational tracks for casino related jobs. Now if I can find this out using google and asking questions why can't they? What this group needs to focus on is making sure that PGC businesses are prepared to do business by having the proper certifications, capacity and bonding. They also need to prepare residents seeking jobs for successfully getting a job at a casino. That means assessing their criminal past (if any), and getting their credit together (for those jobs dealing with money). Both the Gaylord and Tanger both tried hiring locally but that became a futile effort. Gaylord had to fire a lot of the initial hires because they were stealing credit card numbers and stealing from guest. Tanger had to rescind their offers to over 50% of their initial hires because they could not pass the background check. I am all for hiring and doing business locally as long as people and businesses are prepared to take advantage of it.

Quote:
An alliance of Prince George’s County ministers and businesses say a bill meant to ensure local hiring and business participation will actually make it more difficult to hold MGM Resorts International accountable as it builds a nearly $1 billion casino at National Harbor.
