I honestly don't understand all of the bitching and whining over something so small, yet adding a nice little piece to the beautiful skyline at NH.

I went to South Africa over the summer of 2013, and while in Cape Town, there's a ferris wheel at a luxury mall I visited, the almost looks exactly like this proposed ferris wheel at NH, and the layout is the same. I thought the giant ferris wheel added lots of beauty to the surrounding landscape. There is also a waterfront right next to the ferris wheel, which is surrounded by an upscale mall and other retail. I've included photos to show the similarities.

I think this ferris wheel is an excellent idea! Too many stuffy people, NIMBY people, and nonconformists resistant to change. Everyone wants more of the same... the same crap that has kept major corporations from wanting to come to the area. Get over it! Geesh!

I couldn't agree with you more. The nay-saying on this forum has driven annoyance to a new level. This is a great addition, and couldn't be a more perfect location in the metro area. Great move by Peterson.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I don't recall anyone on this forum being vehemently against having a ferris wheel. I think there was some that expressed concerned about how it fits with the overall vision of National Harbor and of course some (me included) who was concerned about the price, but I honestly don't think anyone was taking a strong position against it on here. Perhaps on the Washington Post website and other places, but I think overall it's a mostly meh feeling to being excited on here.

But the tone of most people on here is just ridiculous. Like how could you look at this addition that is being made to the harbor as anything other than a positive. I mean I get the whole deal about prices at the harbor, I've worked there before so I know. IMO i've always thought the NH original vision did have some type of entertainment aspect to it. Now without referring to the casino, I remember the renderings back in 07' having such a lively look to them, which was supposed to "separate" the National Harbor from other waterfronts in the area. So they go ahead and add something that will certainly light up the area and add excitement now people have doubts/problems?

That looks like it will be lovely

As for those prices in reply to UrbanScholar's question, I think I would probably only ride the Ferris Wheel twice in a while

The first time will be with my fam and the second time with the GF.

Although I do understand where you are coming from, I think if you have this attitude, then an internet forum is probably not a place for you. I mean if you expect people to only see things the way you see it, then I am sorry, but you will be miserable on here. Even if someone doesn't like it at all, which again, no one has suggested that, I don't think we can confine someone's opinion to only think like we think. I think that is a bit unfair especially if they have a legitimate reason for feeling the way that they do.

I still don't understand what tone you are even talking about though. I think there were some legitimate concerns brought up. We aren't zombies, we can accept something but still be critical. If someone has a concern that doesn't mean they hate it. I think we become way too black and white on here about how people perceive things. I understand that this is the internet and there is ambiguity there, but let's put things in perspective. Again, I don't think anyone is vehemently against it. There is some reservations but honestly, I think most us of are taking a wait and see approach. I am not going to be excited about every single development that is ever made. Let's be honest if we all had the same opinions, this website would get pretty boring. It's good to hear other people's opinion even when we don't always agree.

What has the result of that been for fort foote elementary? I ask because presumably the residents of NH earn more than average along with possessing greater than average education.
