Hello, my husband and I are considering a move to Maryland. We are looking to work in D.C.
What kind of a commutte will be looking at on a daily basis if we leave Waldorf at 7:30 am or 8:00 am?

Also, Waldorf seems to be a safe area.. Is there a reason why it is so inexpensive? (We saw newer model homes for $350-450K)
Are there areas in Waldorf we should stay away from?

Thanks in advance for your help in this.

Waldorf is nice. It is cheap now but in the next 2-5 years prices will double because of the fast growth. Waldorf only have one way in and one way out going towards DC so you will always have traffic. The roads are one lane or two lanes because it was so rural they had no traffic but now because of the growth it is bad but not too bad. I think you will like the area. they have lots of shopping. i do think it is safe.

Default commute to DC

I live in Waldorf and work in DC. You have a couple of options to get to work. You can take the Keller Bus system or you can take the metro transit system. I take the 7:44 metro for the Accekee Park and Ride and I get to the Southern Ave Metro at about 8:20 getr on the train. I get to work around 8:50. I works great for me. I have about a 3 min drive to the park and ride. And I read my books, until I get to work. I am a federal employee, and since they are giving me the metro checks to get towork, I ma as well use them. If you have more question on the area, or any other email me.

My wife makes the commute to DC daily by driving, and when she leaves at 7:30 she expects to get there by 8:30-8:40; If she leaves at 8 she's always late. The way she travels is by car down 228 to 210 to 295, which takes her from the middle of Waldorf down to the middle of DC.

In regards to real estate in the area, yes Charles County is cheaper than most other areas. Part of the reason is because you are living further away from DC than other regions and the surrounding area is quite a bit more rural. To make your commute easiest, you may want to consider something west of Rt. 301 in Waldorf, or else you will have to fight traffic across town every morning, which will extend the commute. You can easily find newer homes from 350-450, although new construction at that price often does not have the upgrades and amenities you could get in a slightly older (2001-2004) home at the same price. If you have any other questions please feel free to give me a call!

Why don't you ask your nephew? He lives here and knows you better than we do. I suggest the Gaylord at the National Harbor, or something in Old Town Alexandria.

Something nice but not a lot of money is a tough call. Even the well known national chains around here are more than $200/night. I suggest finding a place on the Beltway somewhere between your nephew and the places you want to see.
Have fun.

I guess it's all relative

I've been in the DC area since 1988 and do not consider Clinton UNSAFE.

It's not Beverly Hills, but neither is it the roughest area either

relative
