I find it hilarious. The OP must be joking.
Agreed. Because anyone of superior intelligence should not need a car for affirmation. They buy what suits their needs and not care what people think. Only people of inferior breeding are concerned with what people think of their car (Volvo or ??), these are called followers. Like sheep.

They like driving them, but they don't get to very often.
I''ve owned 4 Saabs and have n 08 9-5 AERO. All have served me well, especially my 2008 and the 2005 I had prior. Never needed a spare car. Never left stranded.

Somebody who buys a car that just suits their needs, as a tool, is not a car person. Cars are often more than that though, especially for car people. And it should be understandable a car is more than just a mere tool for so many people because cars are the second most expensive purchases most ever make, as well as the fact we're in them so often. Inferior breeding? That's a little out there and harsh.

Or, perhaps that person is the ultimate "car person" ... in that they have assessed for themselves what their money is purchasing and have defined the characteristics of a vehicle that meet their requirements most closely.

When I buy a "tool", I buy what is needed for the job to do it correctly. That's why some folk have a fleet of different motor vehicles, to suit their most appropriate functionality; ie, you don't buy a Corvette to tow a stock trailer ....

All the flashy paint/chrome/upscale leather/woodwork/monster audio system/flashy wheels/excessive HP for the required transportation function ... do not contribute any improvement to the performance of the tool. They may, however, satisfy a whole host of other cravings ....

Just an update:

For my Around Town Car, I bought a 2010 Lexus 600h L. Quieter, I think, than my old Ghost, and I'm getting way better mileage than official estimates. The styling is not as dignified as that of my old Volvos (or more recent RR), but it will do. Whether or not this is 'The New Volvo' is questionable. But it's making me feel free to drive around, again, without seeing Dollar signs mounting up with every mile.

I still think my Fiat Cinquecento suggestion makes a better statement.
