How can I make my cars last forever. One Is a 2005 grand Prix with 110,000 on it. I know it is a lot of miles but we have been doing a lot of long distance driving and it was our primary vehicle for 3 years.
Lucky for us we have not had any problems with this car at all. I really would like another 100,000 miles before this car goes bad. Is that possible and what do you recommend me doing to make it last that long.
Do all of your manufacturer's recommended maintenace. Keep an eye out for any issues such as leaks etc.. and fix them right away. Take pride in your car, don't abuse it and hope for the best!
there is no such car. Automotive companies are in it for profit. If they don't sell new cars they don't make money. Sooner or later you will have to buy another car wether it be new or used

But there are always at least a few cars on the market at any given point in automotive history that do last near forever if taken care of. Just a matter of stumbling across them early in their lives.

Auto makers actually make less and less money off the actual sale of the vehicle, in some cases, they've sold vehicles at cost. They make more and more of their money on servicing said vehicles.

That's easy, Glass . . . just stay on top of regular maintenance.
Never go more than 2500 to 3000 miles between oil changes. A complete service is a helluva lot cheaper than the most minor engine repair.
If you put that many miles on it in 5 years, then you must be putting alot of highway miles on it. Those are gentle miles. Pontiac engine's aren't known for longivity but you might get lucky. You can make the car last for 250k miles but, things will start breaking, if not in the engine then in the suspension, brakes, transmission, etc., and you will get to a certain point where it will be more cost effective to buy a new car.
But you might get lucky with the gentle highway miles.
The 3.8 is nearly indestructable. It's only achilles heal that I know of is the intake manifold gaskets, if they start leaking you need to get them repaired asap. It's nothing to see 3.8 with well over 300k miles on them and still running good. If the intake gaskets start leaking, and aren't repaired very soon, you will ruin the engine, anti-freeze and oil don't mix well, the bearings will eventually be eaten away if ran too long with anti-freeze in the oil.
