Leno is not and never will excel in interviewing others. he is too self aware and doesn't listen and is always acting as though he's thinking of what he's going to say next instead of listening and responding to what someone else says.
I'm sorry to say my attention has wained. I just reached my saturation point. I do wish the best for him. He is a likable guy and left Tonight @ #1. I'd hate to see him leave with less due to NBC's screwing around with the man. They should have left well enough alone.
When he first took over the tonight show, his ratings were really bad. It took time for him to build up an audience. He did leave at #1. It will take time to see.
What I also read was the show cost a third to produce compared to a scripted show. So even if it does not become a huge hit and he gets decent numbers, it would still be a successfull show.

TV was ALOT different in the early 90's. The thing is, NBC is so dumb, they will keep him on because they have nothing else.

This is exactly right.
NBC would rather spend 1/10th of what they do on a drama for Leno, and accept poor ratings because of it. Also, they don't want to lose Leno to another network.
He'll be around for 2 years, after that I believe his contract is up. Maybe by then NBC can get a show thats worth something.
