It was close between him and Carson. I loved them both. But I have to go with Leno. Leno was not only funny but he mixed it up well with Eubanks and the band and, the best thing, Leno was excellent at conducting interviews and flowing with his guest. He is one of the few that could have Guest 1 be a serious politician and Guest 2 be an animal trainer and make it work with both of them on stage. Not many people have that kind of skill. I miss him. Conan really doens't hit the spot for me. He is not very funny and Max Wienberg certainly is not as entertaining as Kev was.

Even as a kid I liked Carson. I'd watch him w/ my parents and then into college and adulthood. Missed him greatly when he retired. Leno did a GREAT job of taking over his position and keeping it alive. I don't think any other person could have done it as long as Leno and been as great. Remember it was down between Leno and Joan Rivers to see who would get the spot. Joan did a great job back then guest hosting but I don't think she could have done it as long as Leno. Carson and Leno are both GREATS! There will never be any others like them. They just had it. They did not need a bunch of props or anything else to make great comedy. They could come up w/ different characters to do for skits and it turned out that people loved those characters and they almost become known for them. Carson will always be pictured w/ that turban on his head trying to read the question in the envelope. Leno has JayWalking and several others. Leno and Carson could roll w/ the guests and knew how to get the guests to "perform" once they got on. Like I said before on another thread, Leno could have huge headliners that are hits themselves in comedy come on and say one word and then just sit back and let them fly and it was AWESOME!!!!!

Leno was good but Carson was the best. Can't see me getting too interested in Conan but don't have any better suggestions either.

Carson was the greatest, Leno was good. Conan only got the job because he's a friend of Leno's. It was spelled out in Leno's last contract that his re-placement was to be Conan.
There are too many copycat talk shows on TV today and that has caused talk shows to lose their luster.

"In 2009, I'll be 59 years-old and will have had this dream job for 17 years. When I signed my new contract, I felt that the timing was right to plan for my successor, and there is no one more qualified than Conan. Plus, I promised [my wife] Mavis I would take her out for dinner before I turned 60".

Jay Leno

I haven't either. Maybe he's saving it for his new show, although I suspect he'll be just as unentertaining as ever.

Leno is number 2 and definitely deserves kudos - Letterman bores me.

Carson was classier but not as warm. Leno got a little crude for me at times but I guess I am old-fashioned when it comes to the tonight show.

Kevin could be funny - but Carson had Doc and Ed and Tommy. Also Carson had those great characters -- don't forget "dear, wonderful, OLD aunt Blabby"!

I liked Leno's Fruitcake Lady. She was a HOOT!!!!! They showed some clips of her last week. We had heard them already a couple of times but we were still rolling with laughter after each comment she made.
