True Blood premiers tonight on HBO. Alan Ball also created Six Feet Under one of my favorite HBO dramas.
Clip:
You need a very good excuse to dig up the subject of vampires yet again, and filmmaker Alan Ball seems to have one. His "True Blood" is an audacious, outrageous, playfully grisly comic drama (or dramatic comedy) in which vampirism is pressed into service in new and relatively novel ways.
The very bloody series, premiering tomorrow night on HBO, will scare some viewers away with its gore, though it's nothing worse than what's been seen in dozens of R-rated gross-out films -- slice-and-dice teen thrillers or the relatively new genre of gratuitous gross-out exercises like the "Saw" series.

This has Anna Paquin in it! Remember that little girl from the Piano? Won the Oscar.

The show is based on the popular Sookie Stackhouse books/series. That alone convinced me to watch it tonight

I second that. Wow..!!! That was a good first episode. The casts, the storyline, the quirky humor, 2 thumbs up from me. I thought Anna Paquin's southern twang was spot on, considering she's from New Zealand (I think?). Didn't she play Rourke (the girl who can't touch anyone without causing serious damage) in X-Men?

Can't wait for the next episode!!

The scene was so intense between Bill and Suki in the restaurant. What a marvelous performance by both characters. Bill seems to have an "Elvis" look about him.

I was thinking more of a young Marlon Brando ...

I'm also glad to hear positive comments. I miss Moonlight terribly and have finished the Twilight series so I need a little vampire fix. I'm calling my cable company to add HBO to the lineup.
