I've had a GPS since the day I started driving, they were just part of the driving experience and still are. I guess I'm so open to them because that's all I know.

Yep, I don't like them for the opposite reason.

That statement makes no sense.

That's understandable. I got my mom one for Christmas last year and at first, she was hesitant. Now, she uses it all the time. I was able to find one that speaks her language (Polish) which wasn't an easy feat since Spanish is usually the only other language available.

Now if I can only get her to use an iPad...

One of my favorite functions of a text-to-speech is naming the way-points or destinations that I program in. It's fun to surprise Mrs Ghengis by pulling in to our hotel and having the Garmin Lady cheerfully announce: "Arriving at ****-hole Inn" or a restaurant named "City Morgue Diner"

Cool! I am now on a mission to do just that. What a hoot!

I'm thrilled when my navi gets me to the Nuremberg airport for my 0-dark-30 flights.
No need to think, just follow the instructions.

type in Cody, WY to Idaho Falls, ID - if it doesn't put you thru Yellowstone, that's the right mapping company to use. The Park is closed in the winter.

Or

Cody to Sheridan - again, if it sends you down to Worland first it's the correct one. A14 is closed.

First of all, what the heck is a Tom Tom? Will assume it some kind of techie toy navigation device, right? When traveling to a new place, may check the online maps for suggested routes, but that is the extent of the electronic guide dogs. The real work is to sit down with a good old fashioned hard copy map, of which I have several, and if needed, a magnifying glass. In case anyone has forgotten, Thomas Brothers and Rand McNalley are still in business.
