temperature -- Houston has the mildest temps (not as hot in summer or cold in winter) but is more humid. Dallas can have harsh winters (by TX standards anyway).

people -- Austin is very laid back, no one cares what you wear or drive. Dallas is at the opposite end. Houston is in between the two on that. Austin has a very young population, lots of college-age people. Houston and Dallas are more diverse.

land -- Dallas is mostly prairie and has the fewest areas with large trees and least green of the 3. Austin has hills on the west side, the east side is more flat, a river runs through the center of town, lots of oaks, cedars, and a few large lakes. Houston is more coastal, more green with lots of big trees, has a lake to the northeast and a bay on the east. Lots of little creeks and bayous. The beaches are about an hour to the southeast on Galveston Island.

weather -- all have severe thunderstorms and are very hot in the summer. Dallas has the most extremes in temps of the 3. Dallas and Austin sometimes have drought issues, while this is rare in Houston because of the high amount of annual rainfall.

job oppurtunities -- good in all 3 places.

nightlife -- Austin is more geared toward the college crowd, while Dallas and Houston have nightlife for a larger age group. Live music is more popular in Austin.

shopping -- Houston and Dallas have a big advantage over Austin in this area as far as number of places, range, and more choices (including all the high-end stuff if you're into that).

Hope that helps...
Definitely accurate.

well i can stand the heat. But, I cannot under NO CIRCUMSTACES stand cold below zero (which i know is nowhere near texas ;]) i live in ny and sick of the cold as i probably mentioned before.

i can stand 100+ BUT i cannot stand humidity. ehh. HATE IT. also i dislike the wind. a breeze is nice..but winds 15mph and up i cant stand.

anywhere in tx, besides the three cities i mentioned, is there low humidity and maybe low wind?

thanks ;]

Houston is probably less windy than many of the other areas but it has high humidity. It's windy as all get out in the DFW area in the spring, but not so much in the summer. Usually it's dead calm in the summer, just when you'd want wind the most.

Well no, all of southeast Texas can get very very windy from time to time with all of those coastal winds. Some of this wind comes as relief from the sun sometimes.

Yeah, but if you compare it to a northeastern coastal city SE Texas has like 0 wind.

Austin - Nice Place to visit but you wouldn't want to live there.
Dallas - Nice Place to live but you wouldn't want to visit there.
Houston - Not a nice place to visit and you wouldn't want to live there.

Having lived in Houston, I'd disagree. There's tons of touristy things to do. and there are some cool areas to live in. I prefer the inner loop or the coast. (lived in both). Austin can also get very windy. I don't know too much about El Paso, but I don't remember it being humid there. As for the wind in West Texas, can't say. JJP's post was pretty spot on.
