I have family in Del Rio and lived there briefly as a child and then again (briefly) at 18yo and visited family a few wks ago. I am fond of quiet suburbs near shopping so if I were to live there I'd want to be in the north areas of town, W and NW of the mall (Plaza del Sol) - you can see it on google maps. Just north of the mall is a great huge Walmart and various chain stores (can't remember which ones but things like Lowe's, Office Depot, etc). I believe the more north you go in that northern area, the pricier/larger the homes are.

My in-laws have lived in Del Rio for over 45 years. The area out towards Lake Amistad has the newest homes and nicest neighborhoods. Avoid San Felipe or any of the streets with letters (Avenue D, etc.)

Just down the street from Walmart is an area that has nice homes and an elementary school. If you are going south (I think it's south), the area is on the right side.

Aloha Peaches02

I'm happy to see this post. I hope I helped in the "Worst Texas skyline" thread.

I've actually never been to Del Rio but I know some people from Del Rio. The only thing I know is that Del Rio has an International Airport, a good looking Mall & it is a good sized town 34,000 but I can't really help you but I know your get some good info

Del Rio's "international airport" is pretty much in name only. You can fly there from Houston via Continenatal Airlines, but that is the only commerical flight. Everything else is general aviation/charters.

Plaza Del Sol Mall is OK, but many of the spots are vacant. JCPenney, Beall's and the movie theatre are about all that stays in business...

Default Del Rio Texas

Hello All,

Not sure but may be relocating to the area. I know nothing about Texas! Read a few blogs on here which helped. Main concern is high crime areas and possible flooding? areas? Would like to know the best communities either in Del Rio or in towns nearby. Husband may get a job with the Border Patrol. Also, what is the weather like? Do you have to be on the lookout for reptiles, spiders or scorpions? How is the healthcare system there? Do you have to go out of town to find good restaurants? Thanks!

Is this a community in Del Rio or a town nearby? (I am originally from the Atlanta area...so I am well familiar with crime areas....which I want to avoid.) We may be relocating to Del Rio if my husband gets a job there..but the job looks promising. Thanks!

I've never been to Del Rio. My husband has to go out that way from time to time to different Border Cities like MacAllan, Del Rio, Laredo, Brownsville, etc... His favorite is MacAllan but I couldn't tell you if Del Rio is close to McAllan or not.
