As far as an original birth certificate~they aren't issued. You can go to any county courthouse in the state that you were born in and get a copy. It's possible that you could get one in another state, too.

Maybe you're fortunate enough that your parents saved what was given to them when you were born. They are called a "pretty copy" and they mimic the original birth certificate. Even your little footprints are on there.

Your list is very informative though and would definitely be a time-saver for relocators.

Does anyone know how much the new DPS drivers license cost and will it be usable as "Enhanced Drivers License" in place of a passport when returning from Mexico?

I'm guessing that whatever company your insurance is with is not authorized to issue automobile insurance in Texas (not all insurance companies choose to comply with the insurance regulations of all states, and sometimes companies that have done so in past will pull out of a state).

I got to this information, by the way, from the Texas Department of Public Safety site's page on Moving to Texas (http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/driver_licensing_control/movingtotexas.htm - broken link).
I have Progressive. They're accepted and written in every state!
